About the Artist
|
 |
As
a young child, Joyce was rarely satisfied with coloring books, and was
often on the hunt for blank sheets of paper on which to draw her own
pictures. She was also very strongly drawn to animals of all kinds even
though up to that point she had only had dogs and cats in her family. |
|
When she was seven, her
family moved to a house in the country with a few acres and a barn.
She was finally able to live out her barnyard fantasies. She and her
sister tamed a pig named Rosy to the point that the pig would fall
asleep on her side while the girls scratched her belly. Joyce also
trained her goat, Skippy, to jump over obstacles, and stand on a
tree stump pedestal while she pretended to be the first ever
Girl-Goat act in the circus. |

Joyce sold her first piece of
artwork at a fundraiser fair for her elementary school. The primitive
chalk portrait of her favorite pony, Robie, sold for twenty-five cents.
In high school, she participated in the Advanced Placement Arts Program,
and could be found spending lunch, study halls, and breaks in the art
classroom. |

|
After graduating from high
school, she attended Ringling School of Art and Design (recently renamed
Ringling College of Art and Design) in Sarasota, FL and was blissfully
immersed in the study, discussion, and creation of art.
She then spent a period of
nearly ten years with very little art in her life, and only created a
handful of paintings and drawings. In order to get art back in her life,
and further express her love of animals great and small, Joyce decided
to start Painted Paws Pet Portraits. The business is still in its small
foundling stages, but she has high hopes for its growth in the future
and the happiness it can bring to future clients. |
